What Makes Argyle Pinot Noir So Special?
Argyle Pinot Noir just seems to get better with each vintage. Driven to bring you consistent high quality wines, what makes Argyle a standout for quality and style? Here are a few standout, 'nutshell' characteristics of Argyle's success.
First, the Willamette Valley has just enough sunlight and heat to ripen Pinot Noir at the end of the growing season, late September - early October. This ripening occurs on shallow soiled, hillside slopes, facing the rising sun. Bringing the potential for vibrant fruit flavor with unique structure and texture in the wines from this region.
Second, Argyle was founded on farming. We have been at the forefront of new and sustainable viticulture for the last 20 years. Today, we farm about 500 hillside acres of vines planted to true high density on the best rootstocks and clones. Balance is a key Argyle concept for great farming.
Third, Argyle is a master of gentle handling in the winery. Unique to Argyle, are our whole fruit chilling prior to destemming. This allows fermentation to start very slowly. Small 1.5-ton fermenters allow us to track our fruit row by row for quality control. We culture our yeast and bacteria for added richness. All wines are aged 14 months in French oak barrels to incorporate subtle spice and sweet flavors.
Last, we keep every wine lot separate and put it through an ever more serious prism of quality selection before blending the very best wine lots for our Reserve, Nuthouse, and Spirithouse styled wines. Argyle Pinot Noir is defined by its 'trademark' ripe fruit, silky texture, integrated oak, and extra long finish.
