First Day of Harvest 2009

Posted on September 16, 2009

Here are some photos from our first day of harvest 2009. We picked Chardonnay from Lone Star Vineyard and Pinot Noir from Knudsen Vineyards. These grapes are being picked for our sparkling wines. So far, our load is roughly 24 tons for the day.

Food & Wine Pairing, Labor Day

Posted on September 8, 2009

We had a great turnout for our Labor Day celebration. Thanks to everyone who stopped by for wine tasting and enjoying the deeeelicious foods provided by Underground Cafe. Here you can see a sample of the gourmet goodies – seared scallops with goat cheese & hazelnut salad, beef tenderloin sous vide, pork tenderloin with soft polenta, and delicious halibut tacos, paired with Argyle’s Brut, Reserve Pinot Noir, Nuthouse Chardonnay and Black Brut.

(Note from your humble photographer – the pork tenderloin with polenta was amazing, paired brilliantly with Nuthouse Chardonnay.)

Vineyard Update & Photos – Pinot Noir and Chardonnay

Posted on September 7, 2009

A longer-than-usual visit to Knudsen Vineyards this last weekend netted some nice photos, a few video clips, some immensely tasty grapes and some wet camera hardware. In this first picture, you can see the heavy clouds forming over the vineyards. Moments after this was taken, rain fell for 30 minutes.

Both the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes are very, very close to being harvested. After a huge thinning in early August, the remaining grapes have matured quite well, and are surprisingly delicious.

Here you can see clusters of Pinot Noir grapes:

Stay tuned for more vineyard updates and harvest photos (and video!).

Oregon Chardonnay at Knudsen Vineyards

A quick trip up to Knudsen Vineyards yielded a hundred or more photos of the vines, grapes and beautiful scenery. As for the vines, they’re thriving and survived the intense heat wave with what might have been a disinterested yawn (if vines could yawn). The grapes are forming quite nicely – still young and appropriately bitter, but on their way to being quite delicious.

Oregon Chardonnay Alliance & Oregon Pinot Camp

Posted on June 28, 2009

Argyle Winery hosted the Oregon Chardonnay Alliance event and the kickoff of the Oregon Pinot Camp adventure. Over 100 people from top restaurants, wine merchants, press and more joined in the fun.

Here we see Rollin Soles, Argyle’s founder & winemaker, getting ready to pour some amazing 1992 Argyle Chardonnay from a Jeroboam – a 5 litre bottle of wine equal to about 7 standard bottles. (Small trivia fact: large bottles of wine like the Joroboam age quite differently than smaller wine bottles.)

Winemakers from several wineries were available to answer questions about their wines and winemaking processes.

The festivities continued with the Oregon Pinot Camp kickoff across the street at Ponzi, followed by exciting games of Pinot Pong (ping pong + Pinot Noir) on Argyle’s crush pad.
