2021 Nuthouse Chardonnay

With the majority of this vintage’s chardonnay being from our Lonestar Vineyard, the aromas of lemon verbena, slate and allspice are pronounced and forthcoming. This vibrancy is matched by aging in puncheon barrels to provide its luscious texture and oak tannin for balance and lengthy finish, making for a perfect addition to the cellar or highlighting a celebration.

95 Points

“This 2021 ‘Nuthouse’ Chardonnay was largely sourced from the Lone Star Vineyard with some coming from the Spirit Hill Vineyard. Aged in roughly 20% new French oak, this is beautifully crafted wine with serious richness and underlying tension with salty ripe orchard"

Owen Bargreen, December 2023

Vintage Notes

All signs of the start to the 2021 vintage pointed to a classic spring season. Bud break took place end of April followed by a dry spring. Bloom in June arrived with a rain shower that reduced overall yield potential but allowed for the perfect amount of fruit to ripen on the vines for high quality wine production. Summer remained dry and sunny with plenty of heat to keep the fruit developing. While a heat dome in late June posed a challenge for many in the valley, we experienced no damage from this weather event. These summer events lead to a rather early harvest, which successfully wrapped up the first week of October.
