The Savvy Collector
Spirithouse Pinot Noir is among Argyle’s most age-worthy wines and can age 15-20 years or more. Our very best and rarest Pinot, it is crafted only from vintages when our winemakers believe they can achieve its purest expression of power and grace.
Wine Geek Companion
When planted in 2000, Pinot Noir at Knudsen Vineyard in Dundee represented the highest density plantings ever in the Willamette Valley. There, the fruit destined for Sprithouse is at the highest elevation blocks, at the margins of viability for ripening.
The 2014 growing season began with plenty of sunshine and warmth throughout the Spring. About two weeks ahead of normal, the early June bloom continued with fantastic weather, leading to an above average fruit set. This required us to meticulously thin our vineyards in order to capture dense, vibrant fruit flavors. The summer was quite warm, seeing a near record number of 90º+ days.
