“I went to Oregon earlier this year and tasted more than 450 wines, and it should come as no surprise the wines once again delivered a strong unified impression of rich flavors, structure and balance.
The warm 2017 vintage takes center stage here (it made up more than three-quarters of the wines tasted), and the story is one of mitigating the heat of the vintage and delivering full-flavored wines with freshness, particularly in pinot noir. ‘Trying to slow the vines down and extend the season and get hang time has been a consistent theme for many recent vintages,’ says Cristom’s Tom Gerrie.
Judging by the quality of wine they offered, producers are certainly ahead of the constantly shifting climatic conditions. Stay tuned for a more in-depth report in the next week or two.”
