2020 Nuthouse Chardonnay

With the majority of this vintage’s chardonnay being from our Lonestar Vineyard, the aromas of lemon verbena, slate and allspice are pronounced and forthcoming. This vibrancy is matched by aging in puncheon barrels to provide its luscious texture and oak tannin for balance and lengthy finish, making for a perfect addition to the cellar or highlighting a celebration.

93 Points

“The 2020 Chardonnay Nuthouse, from blocks planted in 1999 and 2000, is perfumed and delicious! Flint and iodine nuances give way to peach, white pepper and singular herbal undertones on the nose. The palate is light-bodied yet wonderfully creamy, offering a balance of ripe, spicy fruit and flinty tones. It has plenty of focused acidity and a long, savory finish... An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. In short, these are terrific wines.”

Vintage Notes

Arguably the most memorable winegrowing season in modern Willamette Valley history, the 2020 vintage was filled with various milestones. Ample sunshine and welcomed bud break in April with bloom shortly following in early June. Warm days a little rain during the summer meant canopies remained strong and vines produced a small but high quality crop. Harvest began in late August with fruit designated for sparkling wine shortly followed by still Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. Harvest shifted on September 7th with the influence of smoke from nearby fires. Because of prior vineyard management practices and a favorable ripening period, the grapes were harvested as fast as they could be in order to reduce the impact of smoke on the flavor of wines.
