2022 Spirit Hill Vineyard Chardonnay

Vintage Notes

Vintage 2022 was yet another memorable year. It began with a frost event shortly after budbreak, creating challenges that no one had experienced in many years. Growers had to quickly adapt and modify their plans to navigate this rare event. A cool, wet spring led to slow growth and a secondary budbreak in early May. This shift in phenology timing resulted in a beautiful bloom, and concerns over low yields were soon replaced by a bountiful crop. The season began to track similarly to the 2011 vintage, prompting growers to act swiftly and with precision to ensure both quality and ripeness by harvest time. The rest of the growing season brought nearly perfect weather, with daily average temperatures in the mid-80s and minimal rain after the first day of summer. Ideal growing conditions persisted, culminating in record-breaking temperatures in October. The warm, dry weather allowed us to harvest the fruit at the perfect moment of ripeness. As a result, the fruit quality for the 2022 vintage was exceptional, marking one of our best years to date.
