About Argyle
Our Winemaking Philosophy
Winemaking at Argyle is a collaborative journey rooted in the rich tradition of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Our founder, Rollin Soles, was drawn to this region in 1979 by its pioneering spirit and the sense of community among winemakers. Now led by winemaker Nate Klostermann, vineyard manager Erica Miller, and viticulturist Geoff Hall, Argyle focuses on innovation and precision. We craft each small lot to preserve the unique character of our estate fruit, creating wines that reflect the land and the people who cultivate it.
Argyle Sparkling Wines
Central to our approach is the Extended Tirage program, which exemplifies Argyle’s dedication to excellence in sparkling wine. This program has produced some of the most acclaimed New World sparklers, earning high praise and setting a standard for quality.
Ojo Brilloso
This unique program highlights the expertise of our vineyard team, inviting each supervisor to select a special Pinot Noir parcel. The wines crafted from these selections reflect a deep understanding of the land and showcase the dedication of those who work it.
Celebrating the Arts
Argyle’s support for the arts is a vital part of our identity, showcased through meaningful partnerships with local cultural institutions.
Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA)
Through the Argyle Scholarship, we support emerging artists who create works inspired by our winery and the Willamette Valley. These pieces are proudly featured on our ‘The Art of Sparkling’ wine series.
PDX Jazz
Our collaboration with PDX Jazz fosters the growth of jazz culture in Portland, bringing music and education to audiences across the region.
Portland Opera
As the Official Sparkling Wine of Portland Opera, Argyle champions high-quality productions that engage and uplift the community, ensuring the continued vibrancy of the performing arts in Oregon.
Our Terroir and Commitment to Sustainability
At Argyle Winery, our dedication to sustainability and our deep connection to the land are at the heart of everything we do. From the vineyards we cultivate to the wines we produce, we strive to protect the environment and ensure the future of Oregon’s wine industry.
Sustainable Practices
Sustainability is integral to our mission. We are committed to responsible practices that minimize our environmental impact, including water conservation, waste reduction, and the use of renewable resources.
- Our Sustainable Home: The Argyle Tasting House, constructed using repurposed materials, reflects our commitment to sustainability in both design and function.
- LIVE Certification: As early adopters of sustainable viticulture, we were among the first in Oregon to earn LIVE certification, underscoring our dedication to rigorous environmental standards.
- Clean Wind Initiative: Through our participation in PGE’s Clean Wind program, we actively reduce carbon emissions and support renewable energy efforts.
Vineyards
The vineyards of Argyle are where our story begins. Located in the Dundee Hills and Eola-Amity Hills, these sites have been meticulously managed to produce wines that truly express the character of the land.
- Knudsen Vineyard: A cornerstone of our winemaking since 1987, Knudsen Vineyard is essential to our finest Pinot Noirs and sparkling wines.
- Lone Star Vineyard: Known for its warm climate, Lone Star Vineyard produces bold, flavorful Pinot Noirs and Rieslings that highlight the distinct terroir of the Eola-Amity Hills.
- Spirit Hill Vineyard: High elevation and cooling winds shape Spirit Hill Vineyard, resulting in wines with remarkable depth and complexity.
- Giving Tree Vineyard: This vineyard embodies our values of sustainability and community, producing age-worthy wines while fostering a spirit of generosity and stewardship.
